The Matriarch marks Malkoun's shift from named emotional states toward the female body as a site of accumulated experience. Mythic and contemporary figures are reconstructed from photographs of places, architecture and lived environments, allowing the body to carry memory, expectation, vulnerability, sensuality and agency without resolving womanhood into a single definition.
